Top Small-Busted Icons

I’ve recently been struck by how many of Hollywood’s glitterati are proudly small-busted. It appears that silicone busoms are no longer a popular red carpet accessory. Whoop! It’s great news for us small-busted women and also for our daughters, whose most influential role models are celebrities. Now that the obsession with pumped-up chests seems to be on the wane, they can aspire to beautiful women who are not afraid to be themselves.

Pondering this, I have been thinking about who are the most iconic small-busted beauties? Women whose dazzling beauty is complemented by their petite frames, who absolutely ooze sex appeal, despite their non-conformity to the hour-glass cliche of womanliness.

Audrey Tautou stars in a Chanel ad… looking spectacular

I did a shout-out on Twitter, and among my friends, and these are the names that came up time and time again, in no particular order:

  • Keira Knightly
  • Kate Hudson
  • Natalie Portman
  • Audrey Hepburn
  • Kate Moss
  • Michelle Pfeiffer
  • Erin O’Connor
  • Cate Blanchett
  • Eva Longoria
  • Audrey Tautou

Lots of inspiration among this line-up of fabulous small-busted women: but which one is your ultimate small-busted icon? I’d love to hear your thoughts, or other nominations!

Kate Hudson is one of my favorites. She is just gorgeous. When will small busted women realize they are beautiful the way they are?

  2. Catherine says:

Thanks for your comment, you are so right! Kate Hudson is a classic beauty and appears to have a very positive body image.

It is nice to see small-busted celebrities, but they’re also all incredibly thin – ever see a small-busted celebrity who also had, say, a tummy, or hips? They don’t look any more like everyday average women than any other incredibly thin Hollywood celebrity does. It’s nice to see smaller busts considered sexy, obviously, and I’m a fan of many of the actresses on your list, but they’re still not realistic role models, as far as physique goes, for most women.

Hi Karen, I totally agree with what you’re saying. Back in the real world, small busted women — just like all women — come in all shapes and sizes. Hollywood body types will never be reflective of the norm, but I guess it’s a step in the right direction that there are now leading ladies that choose to say no to augmenting their busts. I think the best role models for small-busted women are definitely every day people who feel confident in their own skin. Confidence excudes beauty!

I’ve just been to see the movie Avatar, and what better celebration of small breasts! The Navi women are sleek, beautiful and very sexy!

Hi Mandy, thanks for sharing that. I haven’t seen the film yet, but I’ll go & check it out.

  7. It’s great to read that the tiny-body-huge-silicone-boobs trend is on the wane in Hollywood. I just wish the women weren’t so painfully thin. I’d like to see women who look like they eat more than rice cakes and lettuce!

  8. Catherine says:

I couldn’t agree more Helen. Unfortunately, when everyone we see on our TV and cinema screens have the same cookie-cutter look — skinny & ageless — we all begin to think that’s the norm and we are all less than perfect. I like to hammer home the message that we are all originals & that real, beautiful people come in infinite shapes and sizes, with all the delightful quirks that make us human. And, yes, that sometimes includes muffin tops, plump thighs & small busts. Let’s hear it for celebrating the role models we see around us every day, rather than celebs! Still, it’s a move in the right direction if famous folks start shunning the surgeon’s knife.

Sigh. This is depressing, if true. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/15/kate-hudson-breast-implan_n_538582.html

  10. Catherine says:

Karen, thanks for the tip off. How sad, seems to be true though as there’s a lot of buzz about it online. A real shame, as Kate Hudson really rocked the natural look and seemed to exude confidence in her own skin. Like Hollywood needs another pair of fake breasts.

Also: Milla Jovovich and Charlotte Gainsbourg. For kickass or elegant inspiration, as needed.

  12. Catherine says:

Just had another great icon spring to mind after being prompted by an article I read — Jane Birkin. Deserves a mention on this hotlist.

  13. Catherine says:

New icon ideas flowing: Charlotte Rampling.

  14. Shaun says:

    Hiya,

Well, Natalie Portman and Keia Knightley were my 2 fantasy women until I met my girlfriend who’s everything I have ever wanted in a woman. Cute, gorgeous, petite and the sexiest little boobs I have ever seen.

If only my girlfriend was famous I’d nominate her for your list. ;)

    Taylor Swift!

She was on the country music awards a few weeks ago. I’m watching with a female friend (a beauty with a A cup who went the surgery route and is now a D (for damned) cup and shattered me). When Taylor goes onstage to collect her award, D-cup announces, “That girl needs a boob job.” I quickly scowled at her.

Also, Carrie Underwood, Anne Hathaway, and Carla Bruni.

  16. [...] Last year, I celebrated the most inspirational small-busted beauties: women whose effortless beauty is enhanced by their petite bust size; who exude glamour, style and confidence; and who can easily stop the traffic, despite being far from the hour glass image of sexuality. I awarded these bite size bombshells the title: Small Busted Icon. [...]

It’s things like this that make me sad… Not all women with big busts have gotten them augmented. My family is full of naturally large-chested women, and when there’s people left and right putting us down like it’s a nasty trend, it really upsets me. What, is the new “in” thing going to be breast REDUCTIONS? No offense, but that’s not really a step forward. It’s more like a slight move to the left.

  18. Catherine says:

I think you may have got the ethos of this blog a little wrong… it celebrates small-busted women in the context of “beauty comes in all shapes and sizes”… it is exactly opposed to the view that any one shape is the ideal. Instead, it encourages women to enjoy the shape that nature has give them… If you have a large chest naturally then I totally agree that you should be content to be curvy.
