It’s the start of a new year, so what better time to declare: out with the old, in with the new? I’m rifling through every cupboard, drawer and wardrobe in my house, ruthlessly rooting out the bad and the ugly to leave behind a neat capsule of good clothes. Nowhere was there more cause for shame than in my lingerie drawer, where I found a litter of shapeless, faded, ill-fitting garments whose survival instinct seems to have got them through cull after cull. I suspect I’m not alone in being lazy about my lingerie replacement cycle. So long as I have a smattering killer lingerie sets, I’ve always forgiven myself the odd off-the-rails pair of granny pants, or a grey bra strap. But enough’s enough! I love the feel good factor of wearing gorgeous lingerie — so from this point onward I am making a firm commitment to high lingerie standards every day of the week. If you dare, please take part in my poll on the SBBH Facebook Fan Page… let me know the worst faux pas lurking in your lingerie drawer.
As James Cameron’s Avatar tops box office success with critical acclaim at the 2010 Golden Globes, one of its stars, Zoe Saldana, wins fashion plaudits for her stunning red-carpet look. In the film, she sports blue skin and alien features, and somehow still manages to look ravishing. But last night, with an altogether healthier skin-tone, wearing a maroon dress by Louis Vuitton, she shone. The ruffle detail on small-busted Zoe’s dress was the perfect choice to emphasise her lean physique — and not something a curvier figure could pull-off with such grace.
Barely A-cup Kate Hudson, on the other hand, seemed to have fashioned a dress out of folded white card. Yes, we know little-busted women can handle plenty of embellishment and detail around the neckline, but Kate seems to have taken this theory just a smidgeon too far.
