Get the hat off, Jude!

There’s no law against baldness, right? But somehow it is one of the most enduring physical taboos. So, hats off (literally) to Jude Law for shattering it, exposing his startling baldness at a premiere for Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, in Paris last night.

The actor, renowned for his good looks, has not been spotted without a hat for months, sporting a series of tea-cosy like beanies. While the hats should well be considered a crime of fashion, his new receeding cropped cut is far from it. I don’t know about you, but I think it’s a brave move and a refreshing look for Mr Law. It shows he is not clinging to youth, but is confident to move onto a new phase. What is the metrosexual for “ageing gracefully”? Perhaps: “rugged reinvention”, “maturing handsomely”, “dating distinguishedly”? Whatever, Jude is doing it.

Revealing his locklessness is also a bold move that will be welcomed by the millions of men who find it hard to face male pattern baldness: I can’t imagine it’s an easy process and Law should be applauded for hanging his hat up and saying: “I’m proud to be bald”.

And, as my blogging buddy Mrs BeBe said on Twitter: “I’m hoping he’ll fly the flag for talent over aesthetics.”
